Projects

Project planning follows Forest Service regulations (36 CFR 220), which are based on and are consistent with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) regulations, and USDA regulations. For those not familiar with NEPA or the CEQ regulations, CEQ published a 45-page Citizens Guide that provides information on how citizens can get involved.

Developing Proposal

  • Sabine Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project

    The purpose of the project is to provide improved safety areas around critical infrastructure and to allow point source protection of that infrastructure in the event of a wildfire.

  • Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project in Compartments 11 and 12

    Improve wildlife habitat by through thinning, understory mulching, and high frequency prescribed burning to increase the presence of fire-adapted grasses and forbs.

  • Beaver Creek Wildlife Improvement Project

    The project will consist of thinning stands in compartments 10, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 to 60 BA, conducting midstory reduction, and prescribed burning to reduce susceptibility to southern pine beetle and improve the quality of habitat for wildlife

  • Bois D'Arc Municipal Utility District Special Use Permit ROW

    Reissue an existing water pipeline authorization and add an additional 7,100 of new water pipeline

  • Bois d'Arc Open Areas Restoration Project

    Restore open areas on the Bois d'Arc unit of the Caddo National Grassland to better represent historic conditions of native prairies and oak savannas using mechanical, fire and seeding methods.

  • Bullet Creek Mulching

    The purpose of this project is to reduce fire intensity, mitigate smoke management issues, and to help restore a more fire-adapted ecosystem. Mechanical mulching would reduce the amount of small and mid-sized fuels in the treatment area.

  • Caddo Land Exchange

    The proposed Caddo Land Exchange is a connected action to the Lake Ralph Hall Regional Water Supply Reservoir Project (Lake Ralph Hall Project), with approximately 351 acres of the Caddo National Grassland being within the defined project boundary.

  • Davy Crockett National Forest Prescribed Burn Project

    The purpose of this project is to reduce hazardous fuels and restore fire-adapted ecosystems through the intentional application of fire on the landscape. The Dave Crockett NF proposes prescribed burning roughly 260,000 acres with prescribed fire.

  • DCP Southern Hills, LLC Pipeline Permit

    Proposal to to issue a special use permit for an already existing interstate liquid gas pipeline

  • Entergy Texas, Inc. SUP Amendment: Compartment 58, 65, and 68

    Transfer use of existing authorization from one operator to another; reconstruction of exiting FS structure to accommodate an additional power line. No change to right of way length or width..

  • Harmon Creek Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project

    The forest proposes thinning overstocked stands, prescribed burning, and planting of native species to reduce risk of SPB infestation and improve wildlife habitat for RCW.

  • Huntington Thinning

    Thinning of overstocked stands to improve wildlife habitat, reduce insect infestations and reduce fuel for wildfires.

  • Midcoast Energy LLC Natural Gas Pipeline Special Use Permit project

    The National Forests and Grasslands propose to alter existing stand structures within the project area, to move the stands towards the desired conditions for RCW habitat and reduce Forest susceptibility to SPB.

    Red-cockaded woodpecker (Picoides borealis) (RCW) habitat improvement project on the Angelina National Forest in compartments 1, 2, 6, and 7.

  • North Angelina RCW Midstory Reduction

    A midstory story reduction project for compartments 1, 2, and 7 on the Angelina National Forest. The project seeks to improve RCW nesting and foraging habitat within Management Area 2.

  • North Zavalla First Thinning

    Pine first thinning in stands 20-40 years old in compartments 44,45,46,47, and 50 on the Angelina National Forest.

  • Oil and Gas Leasing Availability Analysis

    NFGT is preparing for an EIS to analyze and disclose effects of identifying areas available or unavailable for new oil and gas leasing, what stipulations would be applied to those available lands, and if any Forest Plan amendments would need to occur

  • Raven Forest Unit Expansion

    Raven Forest Unit proposed development of up to 16 wells and 2 pads. The project takes place in compartments 29, 30, 31 and 33 of the Sam Houston National Forest.

  • Sabine River Authority (SRA) Marina and Resort Permit Project

    The Sabine River Authority (SRA) has submitted a Marina and Resort Special Use Permit application for the purpose of developing two recreation sites on US Forest Service property in Sabine and Shelby County.

  • Sawmill Hiking Trail Reroute

    Reroute of Sawmill Hiking Trail within the Boykin Springs recreation area.

  • Stan Lilly SUP Issuance: Compartment 95

    Construction of road access to a private tract adjacent to Compartment 95

  • Texas Plan Revision

    The National Forests and Grasslands propose to revise their land management plan as guided by the 2012 Planning Rule.

  • Tornado Restoration Project

    To increase forest health and restore RCW habitat by planting containerized shortleaf pine in areas where pine regeneration is not occurring and within areas that favor shortleaf pine over other tree species in a 250-acre project area.

  • Midsouth 101 Special Use Permit Renewal

    Proposal to combine and re-issue three Special Use Permits for approximately 25.75 miles of already existing powerlines to Mid-South Synergy. The lines provide service to multiple private land inholdings in several compartments and two counties.

  • SRA Recreation Area Capital Improvements and Maintenance Project

    The Sabine River Authority as part of their obligations under their recently re-issued Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license, is proposing to implement a plan involving improvements to 4 recreation areas on the Sabine NF.

  • Timberwood Management Corp., c/o Voyager Group Ltd. Road Access Permit

    Issuance of a Special Use Permit for the use of NFSR 526 located in Compartment 7 of the Davy Crockett NF. The road is located approximately 8 miles northwest of Kennard, TX.

  • Century Link Special Use Permit Transfer

    Proposal to issue new Special Use Permit to Century Link for 16 miles of communications lines which were previously permitted to Sprint.

  • Hazard Tree Removal Environmental Assessment

    Salvage of trees in administrative sites, in recreation areas, along roads, trails, and boundary lines.

  • Houston County Electric Cooperative Permit Proposals

    Houston County Electric Coop has proposed moving 3 existing power lines to new routes that would decrease their overall environmental impact, decrease safety hazards associated with fire, and allow better management of these lines.

  • Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative Special Use Permit Amendment

    This project is to add additional powerline to provide electrical service to a private property that is landlocked by National forest System land.

  • Stephens & Johnson Operating Co. Private Road Special Use Permit
